The Glazebrook Trial is no more ....                                                  (20.01.03)

Regretfully, news just in that due to the ever declining numbers of competitors for the annual Glazebrook Trial (PCT), the organisers of this, the longest standing event of EDMC's history, have decided to step away from running it for the time being.

Following the last few years of steady decline in competitor numbers, plus the ever increasing struggle to find a suitable venue for the event, has meant a realisation that current club motorsport does not hold much interest for this type of event.

The collective age of experience of the three main organisers of this event was 75 years!

Since the early days when it was a round of the Regional Association PCT Championships, the Glazebrook Trial has seen much change.  The event decided to withdraw from the Regional Championships to save the costs re permits etc and saw entries climb and climb with many car owners clubs (such as the 2CV and the Austin 7 Owners to name two) coming to Belper to have a really good day out.

Weather ranged from bright dry sunshine, through depressing drizzle to deep snow banks - but still they came together with the hardy volunteer marshals.

But as times changed, we saw the 2wd cars disappear and the majority of the entrants being 4x4 vehicles; they in turn churned up the fields which made the 2wd cars struggle even more!

As so today, when realisation dawns that perhaps the time has come to say goodbye - at least for a while.

On behalf of all EDMC, the Glazebrook Trial competitors past and present and the band of hardy (but happy) marshals - I wish to say a big thank you to Rick Hickman, Richard Shelmerdine and John Chadwick for all their years of hard effort in running this event.  And I do so hope it returns again in the future.
